I’d contest that. There’s been an even better part from Fr. Neuhaus and his pre-emptive war apologetic. Nothing like “shock and awe” with a clerical collar around it.

Are there any accurate numbers on the wounded or causalities in general vs. deaths? While there are supply issues, the body armor and armor for vehicles in Iraq is state of the art… so folks that would have simply been dead 50 years ago are now just horribly disfigured.

Here are some casualty stats. The wounded aren’t just disfigured but in many cases maimed — a new development in this war is the number of soldiers receiving traumatic brain injuries. The armor and medical support is good enough that they don’t die, but when they get back to the States they’re discharged from service and sent to the VA, where you can imagine what happens to them (or doesn’t happen: receiving the most aggressive treatment). ]See this story, for example.
