The Wacky World of Jim Gilmore

Former Virginia gov and RNC chief Jim Gilmore is thinking about running for the Republican nomination in ‘08. He’s best known for abolishing cutting the car tax, which is something. But who can take seriously someone whose Iraq policy sounds like this:

He did say he would not support an increase in troop strength there unless a specific mission was spelled out, and that he would not support a timetable for withdrawing troops

“I think we should not keep doing the same thing we have been doing,” he said. “We need to assess new approaches and I am open to considering all of those.”

Don’t add more troops (well, that much is right), don’t plan to withdraw troops — and don’t keep doing things the same. In other words, if Gilmore were driving a car, he wouldn’t be turning right, he wouldn’t be turning left, and he wouldn’t keep going straight ahead. He wouldn’t go faster, he wouldn’t go slower, and he’d insist that “we should not keep going the same speed we have been going.”

This guy is no worse than any of the other presidential bacteria currently commenting on the disaster that is Iraq and the Middle East, the Clintons, McCains, Bahys, Giulianis, Bidens, Obamas, etc.

Listening to the talk of a “surge” and sensing Der Fuehrer’s almost certain affection for one, one is reminded of the insanity that pervaded the Nazi leadership’s plan for the defense of Berlin in 1945. Like McCain’s talk of massive new troop commitments over a long period of time, the SS was still hanging deserters well into May that year.
